FAQ

Are you robbing me? Why are your artworks so expensive?

Honestly, if I haven't learned the screen printing process, I would say they are ridiculous priced as well, compared to digital prints. Yes, the price is way higher than the posters in IKEA, but the value you get from it far exceeds what you paid. Screenprint artworks have layers and depths that normal digital prints don't have, and you can see and feel the difference. The color, the texture, the paper, the whole feeling of a screen print make up for the price. In short, it's a labor intensive process that produces limited, yet beautiful work. Also, if you don't love it, you can always return it for a full refund : )

What's screen printing?

For people who grew up in the digital age (like me), screen printing is an ancient process that's slow and tedious, and provokes the print gods so they are always angry at you, and screw up your work. But when things are working, they produce beauty only this process could achieve. I am still discovering its beauty.

Check out this page for detail explanation of screen printing.

How do you create these screen prints?

First I create some sketches for a location I love, and experiment with various compositions and color schemes. The sketching stage might vary, sometimes a few hours, and sometimes it takes months. Once I have a good design, I would further develop it into a full size image with all the necessary details. After I have a final image, then I would go into the screenprinting phase, and start producing them. The screen printing process would need a second page to explain.

Your print sucks, can I return it?

My gosh, how dare you! Of course you can. We will be sad but we will swiftly issue you a refund once we receive it.

I thought all the screen printers died off. Why do you choose screen printing as your medium?

To me, screen printing is about layering of colors, which majority of the digital printers can't do. That's why screen print artworks have depth and you can see the layers, while digital prints look flat, because they are printed in one layer. In a way, screen printing is similar to Caravaggio's painting process. He likes to build up his objects with layers of paint. He glazed with thin paints on top of his drawings, often with multiple layers if necessary. That's why classical painters could achieve such rich colors and depth. I love oil painting and the screen printing process speaks to me from a technical and visual aspect.

In addition, the ink, the paper, and the definition of the screen all add up to the uniqueness of screen printing. With everything added, I think screen printing is a great process for me.

Why don't you ship to my country?

Honestly, shipping is a nightmare when it involves customs, specially for large pieces on the site. And the fees are outrageous. Also we are a tiny business and don't have enough resources to handle the complexity yet. But if you really want a piece, contact us via the contact form and we could definitely work something out.

Who's the person made all these prints?

Hello there, below is a short bio I sent to people when I apply for art booth and competitions:

---------------------------------------------------------

My name is Hui Zheng. I like to make landscape and travel destination artworks. When I was in college, I first saw the WPA National Park posters created by Chester Don Powell, and I have never forgotten them. It's my dream to create great artworks like he did.

The works on the site are the results of me fumbling and learning to do good work. I create the images first, and then hand print all of them. Overtime they have evolved more than just travel posters or pretty landscapes. I hope one of them could earn a place in your home, and inspire you like Mr. Powell's posters did for me.

Go out and see the world with a peaceful heart : )

Wow, I can't believe you finish reading it. You are a champ. Now go buy some screen prints, from me or other artists!
